UL International NZ Ltd is managed and operated by skilled employees with a wealth of technical and commercial experience both internationally and within the Australasian region.


Doug Johnson - Vice President & General Manager Australasia
Doug Johnson has been with UL since 1993 and has held a number of different roles within a number of different geographies during that time, including: leading UL's management system registration business in Asia, establishing UL's presence in Thailand and launching UL's joint venture in China.
Prior to joining UL, Doug worked as a Quality Manager and Engineer for The Boeing Company.
Doug is based in Christchurch and has overall responsibility for leading UL's customer-focused operations in Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding area.


Manuel Shimasaki - Operations Manager Australasia
Manuel joined the UL family in November 2007 as Operations Manager, Australasia. He has over twenty years of experience in product testing and certification. Prior to joining UL, Manuel was the Managing Director of Parkside Laboratories.
He holds a New Zealand certificate in Engineering, Telecommunications, New Zealand Trade Certificate in Aircraft Engineering (Avionics), New Zealand Technician’s Certificate in Telecommunications and Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering. He is also a registered IANZ signatory for Electrical, EMC and Metrology and Calibration services.


Ken Wilson - Quality & Compliance Manager Australasia
Ken Wilson has been involved in electrical product testing, quality systems development and laboratory management since 1991; and was previously the Managing Director of Wakefield Laboratories Ltd.
In addition to overall responsibility for quality of service and compliance issues, Ken Wilson has a primary role of company representation in technical standards development and industry body forums, as an IANZ Technical Assessor, as a NATA Technical Assessor, as an IECEE CB Scheme Technical Expert and as an IECEE CB Scheme Lead Assessor.
Ken Wilson is a registered IANZ signatory for electrical safety test reports issued under the terms of the laboratory accreditation.


Paul Deverall - Finance & Administration Manager Australasia
Paul is responsible for financial and administration functions of UL International NZ; and was previously the Executive Director of Wakefield Laboratories Ltd.
He brings a wealth of experience to UL from previous senior management and executive roles within The Electricity Corporation of NZ, Solid Energy Ltd and Envirowaste Services Ltd.


Stephen Gavan - Regional Sales Manager Australasia
Stephen Gavan recently joined UL as our new regional sales manager for the Australasia region. Stephen joins UL with fifteen years experience working at various levels of sales and general management within diverse markets including IT, Managed Services, Engineering, Mining, Hospitality, Corporate and Channel.
In his most recent position as State Manager for New South Wales, Stephen led a team of seventy-eight, implementing change and growing the business in both sales and profitability. Wishing to build on achievements to date, Stephen is currently completing his master's degree in Business Management.
